With its camera feature, it can detect European speed limit signs while driving and supplement the results using map-based limits from OpenStreetMap. This means it can even detect limits that are not indicated by signs, such as Zone 30 or inner city areas. Additionally, it provides warnings when you exceed the speed limit.

Working principle of Speed Limit App:

The app utilizes both road sign data from the camera and map-based information from OpenStreetMap to provide an accurate indication of the speed limit. The speedometer obtains its data from the GPS to determine if you are above or below the actual limit based on the last detected road sign.

Limitations of Speed Limit App:

• Recognition of road signs may fail at night or in adverse lighting conditions due to limitations of the iPhone camera.
• The app is optimized for European road signs, so it currently does not support US speed limits.
• It does not support "end of limit" signs or place/city signs that may impact the speed limit according to local traffic road regulations.
• In narrow turns, the limited view angle of the camera may cause missed detections of road signs.
• Occasionally, there might be missed or false detections of road signs.
• The speedometer is updated every second.
